Take a trip back in time when you visit the Aviation Museum at Caernarfon Airport. Explore our vast collection of aircraft from Hunter, Seahawk, Javelin and Vampire to the magnificent Westland Whirlwind helicopter -all set amongst authentic flying scenes and true stories from the Second World War.

The airfield at Caernarfon played an important role in the war effort. As an RAF station it became a centre of excellence for training of Bomber Command navigators, radio operators, bomb aimers and gunners.

As RAF Llandwrog it was also the home of one of the RAF's first Mountain Rescue Teams formed by Flt Lt George "Des" Graham the SMO. He is considered as the father of the modern RAF Mountain Rescue Service for which he was awarded the MBE in 1943. He was also decorated DSO and Burma Star for his part in a daring rescue behind enemy lines in Burma in 1944.

The museum is very 'hands-on' giving you the chance to sit inside some of the cockpits. There are also literally hundreds of model aircraft in the museum, including some very rare models, and a small cinema showing aviation footage which can be purchased from the museum gift shop.

Exhibits include: Display area for RAF Search and Rescue, Display of Mountain Rescue Service, Tiger Moth construction project, History of the Fleet Air Arm, Display area of Llanbedr Missile range, Westland Whirlwind helicopter, History of RAF, Varcity simulator, Percival Prince, Javelin, Jindevik, Sea Hawk, Venom, Hunter MK1, Hunter T9 twin seat trainer, Link trainer and Sycamore helicopter
